University of Texas at Austin Scholarships?
I am a Freshman at duPont Manual High School in Louisville Kentucky. It is the best High School in the state. I have been wanting to go to the University of Texas since 6th grade, however out-of state tuition is 30k a year. I do not want to be buried in debt right out of college. I plan on becoming an Attorney and am inquiring about the financial plan to not come out buried. I have looked at the Texas Exes 40 Acre Scholarship, however this scholarship seems very limited. I fit most of the requirments except the ACT/ National Merit(have not taken/applied). I doubt they would give the scholarship to a Kentuckian. Although my teacher asked me if I had any family in Texas, and I do. My Aunt lives there, he said something about “claiming” their residence and getting in-state tuition(7k). How would I go through with this? Im a little confused.
Just do well in your classes, and on your PSAT, SAT and ACT. National Merit is based on your PSAT score, so study up and prepare for that. I go to a state university in Texas, and a lot of the out of state students get a waiver for their out of state tuition that allows them to pay in state tuition. In the case of university of Texas, they want to recruit the best students in the world to go to their school, so if you have an awesome application, they will grant you in state tuition, and possibly other great scholarships too. You are still young in your high school career, so you have the potential to go wherever you want. Make good grades and work hard, and you will be able to go to UT without having to pay a ton in tuition. Good luck!
