Criminal Law Offices

Which of these would help me more in the long run to advance in law enforcement ?

should i just get my 4 year in criminal justice, or should i just get my AAS in criminal justice and join the U.S. Coast Guard for two years as a Mla, which means Maritime law enforcement office. I love the idea of either of the options and if I did the military and two year degree, then i could finish my degree and have it paid for by the coast guard.

Ps. i want to be a detective, swat, or state trooper, even just a regular cop.

Degrees are excellent in the long run, and can even encourage your mentors to push you along thru the process alot easier.

But police departments want to hire people with experience, THAT will get you the most respect off the bat.

Although police departmens obviously hire alot of complete beginners too.

But in the long run you WILL need a degree in order to advance far in the chain of ranks.

But dont expect to get a bachelors in CJS and just walk thru police academy and start climbing the ranks.

Bottom line, it takes REAL TRAINING and EXPERIENCE.

you could have all the education in the world, and its not gonna do you anygood when your in the field!
You mainly need the hands on experience, morals and training.

But the education is EXCELLENT to have once you’ve been with the department for alittlewhile, then when more positions start opening, you’ll be at the top of the list because of Experience and Education.
