how do i find a free lawyer (pro bono) in san antonio?
im in trouble , getting worse….i know i have a warrant now….cant get a job, because of a past record , and child supports on my ass now, when my rights have been screwed since day one. i cant get jobs rarely because of my past, and now i cant even call the cops to see my boy, because ill be arrested?? not losing my freedom, for what , doing the only things i can for him when i work, and watch him for months at a time, daily, before…while child support racks up under my own supervision and care for months….its too hard to explain, im getting screwed, dont have money, staying out of trouble…til i get picked up by a cop, then slapped with the back n forth to jail when he should be with me, especially if i can get a good lawyer to get my old records exponged so i can get better jobs. PL?EASE HELP!
If you are being charged with a crime, you can have a court appointed public defender. Just ask for one at your arraignment or go file a form with the court for indigent defense counsel.
If this is a civil matter, (warrants are for crimes though) then look in the phone book under legal aid. Or call your state bar – the Texas State Bar Association – and ask them for a pro bono Lawyer In your area. But note, that not all of the lawyers they may refer you to can take current matters though. You kind of have to call around if you are looking for a private lawyer and see if one has the time, and wants to take a pro bono case right now.
